Our Story:

Our founder’s journey began not in a boardroom, but on the streets. For four years, he lived at the mercy of addiction and homelessness in some of Canada’s most vulnerable cities. He didn't just see the statistics; he saw the faces—the "unseen and unheard"—who viewed the world as a cold, unloving place. He witnessed the tragic reality of cities with thousands in need and only a handful of beds.

Yet, in the midst of that hellscape, he found hope in the small places. He found centers where volunteers, fueled by compassion and faith, offered more than just a shower or a meal—they offered a foothold. These small acts of humanity kept him alive until, in a hospital bed facing a life-threatening infection, he turned to God and began the grueling climb toward recovery.

After years of rehabilitation and rebuilding his life from nothing, purpose finally found him. He began working at a small, mission-driven thrift store. He saw how commerce could be a vehicle for grace—providing affordable goods to the community while giving essentials to those in poverty. When that store was forced to close, he knew the mission couldn't die with it.

Giving Hood was founded to carry that torch. We believe that if the government won't act, the community must.

At Giving Hood, our philosophy is rooted in the belief that business should serve humanity, not just shareholders. Inspired by a humble thrift store that served the vulnerable despite its own financial struggles, we have evolved that mission for the digital age.

We take the "Spirit of the Samaritan" and apply it to online retail. By operating on a for-profit basis with a nonprofit heart, we generate the sustainable funding required to build community centers, support families in poverty, and provide a lifeline for those battling addiction. We aren't just selling products; we are reclaiming lives. When you shop with us, you aren't just buying an item; you are funding the very footholds that make it possible.

Heading 3

How It Works:

Every 3 months (quarterly), a new funding recipient is chosen to receive 25% of the total profit from every sale on the site (except for our clothing line, but more on that soon!). We choose these recipients from a variety of missions ranging from addiction outreach services, community shelters, food banks, recovery homes, sick kids charities, and more. Through this donation channel, Giving Hood aims to have a consistent positive impact on the lives of people in need.

But that is not all we have planned; on the first of April 2026, we will be launching BIRCH APPAREL.

Our very own clothing line, the name inspired by the street where the mission-based thrift store that inspired the company was located. And a goal inspired by the likes of legendary social enterprise owners such as Nipsey Hustle. With Crenshaw, the clothing brand named after his beloved community that struggled hard. He made a real positive change in his community. He provided for people in need, gave people jobs, got them off drugs, and helped families get on their feet.

That Is Our Goal For BIRCH

Right from the beginning, 50% of all sales from our BIRCH clothing line, that being everything we won't need for taxes, production, and overhead, is going directly to the bank to save for our very own Giving Hood Community Centers. This is a long-term goal. But one we are very excited for.

The first center will be located right here in our local community of Timmins, ON. We will provide social services, essentials such as food, laundry, and showers, job support, and many other services to help the community members who may need that bit of extra assistance. We will use this as a family-friendly community hub where we will bring people together, get struggling people off the street, into jobs, and and make a difference in their lives. At the least a warm meal makes a difference to someone without a home. This much we know. So even in the smallest ways we will still be proud to serve.

Our First Giving Hood Community Center will be a home base for the company and from there we will work to build our community and our company hand in hand. This we hope to only be the beginning because with this proof of concept, we hope to eventually extend our model for these centers out to other communities in need, opening more Giving Hood Community Centers to create positive change in places that need it.

So We Here At Giving Hood Thank Each And Everyone Of You.

Without your support none of this would be possible.

We thank you for consideration of our cause, we thank you for any patronage, engagement on social media, positive words, ideas, feedback, and all the rest. We thank you all for being here with us and taking part in our mission. Because during these times of uncertainty in our world, we believe that what we all need is love and to reach our hands out and support each other.

And when you shop with Giving Hood, you're doing just that!

The Three Pillars Of Giving Hood

Pillar #1- Evolution: Shifting Norms, Changing lives, Redefining Support

We believe that the old ways of addressing social issues are no longer enough. Giving Hood is an evolution of the modern business—a social enterprise that proves profit can, and should, fuel progress. We aren’t just looking to provide a temporary fix; we are here to change the narrative for the marginalized. By introducing a new model of community-driven support, we are evolving the way our society cares for its own, turning every transaction into a catalyst for personal and systemic transformation. From the very beginning, we aim to have an impact on people's lives. By donating 30% of profits from sales of all items outside of the BIRCH clothing line to funding recipients chosen on a semi-annual basis, Giving Hood has a consistent positive impact on those in need. For the long term, 50% of all sales of the BIRCH clothing line will be saved for the opening of our first Giving Hood community center, which will be the command center for our mission and the pilot for many more centers like it to come.

Pillar #2- Solidarity: Moving beyond charity to a commitment of radical human support

Mankind was never meant to walk alone. We believe that true impact happens when we stop waiting for external systems to save us and start looking to one another. Our Giving Hood community centers will be catalysts of change, giving everyone an opportunity to contibute to the whole, creating change on the individual and collective levels. Solidarity is the heartbeat of Giving Hood; it is the recognition that our neighbors' struggles are our own. We reject isolation in favor of a united front, working hand-in-hand to ensure that food, mental health support, and dignity are available to all. We are humans helping humans—because we are at our best when we improve life for everyone.

Pillar #3-Fortification: Strengthening communities and building a safer world from the ground up

A community is only as strong as its most vulnerable member. Through our dedicated clothing line and community initiatives, we are quite literally building the future. Our goal is to fortify the local landscape by establishing community centers that serve as sanctuaries of growth. From employment assistance and skill-building workshops to essential laundry and food services, we are laying a foundation where people don’t just survive—they thrive. We strengthen the community to save the individual. We aim to take this concept from pilot in the northern community of Timmins Ontario, and adapt it so that we may establish community growth centers in communities across the country. Creating a catalyst for positive change that we hope will benefit mankind for generations to come.
